Adhocracy

noun. An organization with little or no structure; the opposite of bureaucracy.

I first read this word on Dave Winer’s essay on DaveNet about Weblogs in Meatspace. That’s a strange title, I know. He’s talking about how to organize a conference for people who write weblogs; but, to organize the conference similar to how weblogs work. The example usage of “adhocracy” given by Wordspy is somewhat disparaging (but then the sample citation makes bureaucracy sound good). He said the challenge to organizing such an event is not knowing who was going to have the most important things to say before the conference started. “There’s got to be an element of adhocracy to it.”

Anarchy has such a bad connotation. I really like the sound of adhocracy though. It makes it sound like it’s not really “anything goes”. It is an “organization”. It’s just not an over organized organization. smile

First Post!

OK, I’m really excited about this. I’ve been excited about web logging (blogging) for quite some time. Blogging is basically a way to keep an on-line journal easily. There are lots of time throughout the day that I learn some interesting bit of news. Often the kids do something that is noteworthy and should be recorded. I also have several projects I’d like to keep notes on.

Thank goodness for blosxom! I’ve written an article on my work integrating BlosxomAndTWiki. So far, I can reference documents in my TWiki in my blog. Ultimately I’ll be able to show blog entries on my TWiki. Really what I’ve done is use the TWiki engine to pre-process the text of the blog entries.
