More Chewing Madness

Yes, our dog is still a chewing machine. Carla recently told of Kozmo’s love for bananas. Well, last night was the worst. Kozmo pulled Joshua’s pinewood derby car off the middle of the counter (reaching past the bananas) and proceeded to destroy it. Not just a little teeth marks here an there that might be sanded out. No, the entire front end of the car is toothpicks. It really was a crushing blow. The race is in just a little more than two weeks and now we have to completely start over. Of course, Carla’s pretty upset. Josh was also upset but took the news well. I think I did a pretty good job of walking the line between “this is really bad news and I’m sorry” versus “hey, we still have plenty of time to start over”. And really, this is good news/bad news. Of course, it does suck that the car was destroyed. On the other hand it means I’ll be spending all day Saturday with Josh catching back up.
I’m trying to figure out how you spending all day Saturday with your son versus programming with me is a good thing!
We give our dogs regular chews and they have a basket full of their own toys. That, regular exercise, and once a week at doggie daycare mostly keep this kind of thing under control.
Still, when Gordon was younger he chewed up my glasses and the cable TV connection. Our new dog, Max, has a bad habit of what we call “pop-ups”. He tries to grab food, clothing, whatever, off of the table and kitchen counter.
My brother-in-law’s dog, Mulligan, is really bad at destroying things and pop-ups. He tore a curtain and curtain rod off of the wall, destroyed about 35 $8 wedding invitations, ripped open Christmas presents, pulled 2 pumpkin pies off of the table at Thanksgiving, and more.
Be thankful you don’t own Mulligan!
I have to second what Britton said. I have two wonderful dogs but they require one mile walks twice a day or they get mischievous and destroy stuff, ours happen to love to tear up paper. I actually had to tell a professor once that my dog did eat my homework and chewed my notebook! Doggie day care once a week is great!
Thanks! Great!
