Score Another One for the Good Guys

See, when you get those lawyers and judges out of the way, juries often do the right thing. The Register is reporting that Stefan Puffer has been aquitted by a jury on “two counts of unauthorized access into a protected computer system and unauthorized access of a computer system used in justice administration.” If found guilty Puffer could have served five years in jail and be subject to a $250,000 fine. The original insident occured when Puffer (who used to be a technology contractor or employee for the Justice Department) demonstrated in public to a reporter and a county official how insecure their wireless network was. Instead of just fixing the problem that Puffer innocently pointed out, the county prosecuted him. The prosecution was simply a case of shooting the messenger. Thank goodness a jury can saw through it.
